Ondo Lawmaker doles out bursary to undergraduates in Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency

The federal lawmaker representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal constituency, Hon Mike Omogbehin on Easter Monday gave out bursary award to students from the constituency. 'YOMI AYELESO, who co-anchored the event reports; The conference hall of Okitipupa local government of Ondo state on Monday 28th March, 2016,was filled to the brim with students, parents, political heavyweights and others who came to witnessed as the students filed out in their numbers for the presentation of the Bursary award to undergraduates across the Irele/Okitipupa federal constituency sponsored by the lawmaker representing the Constituency, Hon. Mike Adeniyi Negwo Omogbehin. No fewer than 230 students across tertiary institutions in the country were drawn from the 23 wards that makes up the constituency in which each of the students went home with a sum of Ten Thousand Naira(#10,000). The Lawmaker who further used the occasion to donate computer sets and accessories to the Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH),Okitipupa, said he would facilitate more federal project to the institution.
It must also be said that during the last quarter of 2015,Hon Omogbehin had doled out fifty thousand naira each to law students who are proceeding to the law school from the constituency to support their education on campus.
It would be recalled ,during the electioneering campaign ,he met with the students in an interactive forum where he promised and assured them that , being voted into office within his first year in office ,he will give out bursary award to undergraduates in his constituency, this he did in grand style on Monday. Speaking at the event ,Hon Omogbehin who said the gesture was part of his campaign promises, appreciated the people for the confidence they reposed in him. He said he remains committed to his electoral promises not minding the current economy situation of the country. He said; "During the campaign, I promised the students if they vote for me, i will give 230 of them bursary award every year of my four years tenure. For me, it is was an agenda that has been agreed because am a covenant keeper".
Hon Omogbehin who charged the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of their constituency urged them to make judicious use of the fund. He said great future awaits them if they remain undoubted in their life aspirations.
Dignitaries who spoke at the event eulogized Hon Omogbehin for the bursary award to the students and for keeping his electoral promises. They urged politicians to emulate him. The Ondo State commissioner for Agriculture and former Chairman Okitipupa local government, Pastor Segun Ayerin while speaking at the event, appreciated the lawmaker for making his empowerment centres around the educational sector. The commissioner said the importance of Education cannot be over emphasized saying , it takes away poverty and ignorance from the society. A onetime commissioner for Information in the State, Eddy Olafeso commended the lawmaker for giving the people of the constituency quality representation since his inauguration 10months ago. He praised him for his concern for Educational development of his constituency. He charged the students to make proper use of the money. Eddy Olafeso urged the people to continue to support the lawmaker for him to bring more dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
Also speaking, the caretaker chairman of Okitipupa local government, Hon Solomon Bitire said the lawmaker has impressed him since assumption of office with his support for education ,saying students are the leaders of tomorrow. A public affairs analyst, Mr Segun Odidi said the lawmaker is a round peg in a round hole and he has chosen the right path of honour and dignity. He commended him for giving back to the society, urging him to continue in the direction that prosperity will be there to judge him. The acting Registrar of OSUSTECH, Mr Felix Akinnusi who represented the Vice chancellor at the event, said the lawmaker has made tremendous contributions to the institution urging other politicians and persons in the area to emulate him in giving back to the university.
On their part ,some of the beneficiaries, Julius Akeredolu, a student of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo and Ejike Samson of Delta State University, Abraka appreciated Hon Omogbehin for the payment of the bursary. They said it is a great deal of financial relief for their education. On her part , Opeyemi Lijoka, a student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye and Akinbinu Bosede, Adeyemi College of Education called on other politicians to emulate him in the area to make Education less burdensome for parents and Guardians.
The event with a lecture titled; " The Importance of Entrepreneurship Education in constituency Development" was delivered by the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Leadership Training, OSUSTECH ,Dr Adeyeye Adewole. No doubt, Hon Mike Omogbehin, over the last 10 months has demonstrated flashes of what to expect to members of his constituency and as he continues in his milestones, he needs the most support of the people. I want to admonish the good people of Irele/Okitipupa federal constituency to cooperate and join hands with the man many have described as a politician of a distinct characters.
Dignitaries at the event includes, traditional rulers;Oba George Faduyile, the Abodi of Ikale land; Oba Festus Olumuyegun, the Oniju of Iju Odo,a federal lawmaker representing Odigbo/Ile-Oluji constituency, Hon Mayowa Akinfolarin. Also present at the event, was the chairman Ondo State Board of Agricultural Inputs, Hon Niyi Adebusoye, SSA to the governor on civil society, Prince Oluwole Monehin and CEO AK media concept, Asiwaju Benson Akindeju among others.
